Topeka is full of character and it keeps growing every year! One of the best parts of living here is the sense of community that shines through our local events. From long-standing traditions to hidden gems you might not have heard of, there's something happening in Topeka for everyone in every season.
Tulip Time
Every spring, Topeka bursts into color with thousands of tulips blooming across the city's gardens, especially at Lake Shawnee's Ted Ensley Gardens and Old Prairie Town. Both places put on events every year to highlight the flowers. Every April, Tulips at Twilight is hosted at Old Prairie Town in Ward-Meade park and Lake Shawnee puts on Tulip Festival at the Lake.
Germanfest
Hosted by Sacred Hear-St. Joseph Parish, Germanfest is an event that makes you feel happy to be part of Topeka. Think live music, authentic German food, (bratwurst, bierocks, and strudel), games, and community fun. It's family-friendly, delicious, and full of energy, the kind of weekend that reminds you why small-city living is so special.
Cruise Night on the Boulevard
A classic throwback event that brings out the best of Topeka nostalgia, Cruise Night is all about vintage cars, loud engines, and small-town camaraderie. Locals line the streets, grab food from vendors, and watch classic cars race down the Boulevard. Even if you're not a car person, this is a good time.
First Fridays Art Walk
On the first Friday of every month, the NOTO Arts District comes alive with music, art, food, and community. Local artists open their studios, galleries feature new exhibits, and street performers bring extra energy to the night. Stop by one of the many local eateries along the strip to grab a bite to eat, and walk around enjoying the community.
Sunflower State Games
Every summer, Topeka hosts Kansas' largest amateur sporting event, featuring competitions in everything from pickleball to archery. Whether you're competing, volunteering, or cheering someone on, the energy is contagious. It's a fun reminder of how many people come together from all over the state.
TARC's Winter Wonderland
This one will always hold a special place in our hearts. Every holiday season, Lake Shawnee transforms into a glowing drive-through light display benefiting TARC, an organization that supports individuals with disabilities and their families. It's pure holiday magic and one of our favorite ways to kick off the season.
These events are more than just dates on a calendar, they're what make Topeka feel like home. They bring people together, celebrate our local culture, and remind us how much heart this city has.
Whether you're into art, food, music, or lights, there's always something worth showing up for. Try something new this year! Mark your calendar, grab your friends or family, and go make some memories at one of these local favorites.
